Erling Haaland has ended speculation about his future by signing for Borussia Dortmund.
The 19-year-old has lit up Europe with his dazzling goalscoring displays with Red Bull Salzburg this season, leaving some of the biggest clubs in world football to chase after his signature.
Manchester United appeared to be frontrunners to nab the son of Leeds United great Alf-Inge Haaland, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently admitting his interest in the teenager having previously managed him at Molde.
Reports suggested he had even flown to Manchester to thrash out terms with United.
However, he has now agreed to move to Dortmund and will officially join the German side on four-and-a-half-year contract once the transfer window reopens in January.
According to a report by German outlet Kicker, Dortmund activated a release clause in the youngster’s contract which means they have completed the signing for less than £20million.
“I had intensive discussions with the club management and the sports management, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and trainer Lucien Favre,” the striker told the club’s official website.
“There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators. I’m already burning for it.”
Haaland has scored 28 goals in all competitions so far this season, eight of which have come in the Champions League.
The Norway international could make his debut for BVB when Lucien Favre’s side travel to face Augsburg in the Bundesliga on January 18.
Borussia Dortmund’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, said: “Despite many offers from absolute top clubs from all over Europe, Erling Haaland decided on the sporting task at BVB and the perspective that we have shown him. Our tenacity has paid off.
“We can all look forward to an ambitious, athletic and physically strong center forward with a pronounced goal instinct and impressive speed, which we would like to develop further in Dortmund.
“At the age of 19, Erling is of course just beginning a hopefully great career!”
